ギンザ・グラフィック・ギャラリーは、「ginza graphic gallery」の頭文字をとって「ggg（スリージー）」の愛称で親しまれています。1986年に大日本印刷株式会社が、グラフィックデザインと密接な関わりを持つ企業として文化活動の一環で設立しました。創業の地であり画廊のメッカでもある銀座という立地、実際に足を運んでみると、この場所だからこそ意味があるのだと実感できます。現在はDNP文化振興財団が運営を引き継ぎ、グラフィックデザインの素晴らしさを多くの人に伝える場として機能しています。

Ginza Graphic Gallery is affectionately known as "ggg (three-g)" from the initials of "ginza graphic gallery." It was established in 1986 by Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd., a company closely connected to graphic design, as part of their cultural activities. When you actually visit this location in Ginza - both their founding place and a mecca for galleries - you can truly understand why this place holds special meaning. Currently operated by the DNP Cultural Promotion Foundation, it functions as a place to convey the excellence of graphic design to many people.

ギャラリーは地下1階と1階の2フロア構成で2階には過去のアーカイブ等が収められたライブラリーがあり、それぞれ違った魅力があります。地下1階では企画展が開催され、写真撮影も可能なので、多くのデザイナーや学生が作品を熱心にカメラに収めている光景が印象的でした。2階にはライブラリーが併設されており、国内外のグラフィックデザイナーを紹介するgggBooksシリーズや年鑑、図録を自由に閲覧できます。静かで落ち着いた空間で、じっくりとデザインの世界に浸ることができる贅沢な時間を過ごせます。

Upon entering the grounds, your eyes are immediately drawn to the vibrant vermillion drum bridges. There are actually three bridges, each with names: "Male Bridge," "Female Bridge," and "Flat Bridge." The front-most Male Bridge has a steep angle that makes crossing it a bit thrilling! From these bridges, Tokyo Skytree can be seen beautifully. The combination of traditional vermillion bridges and the modern Skytree creates an indescribably Tokyo-like landscape that makes you want to snap photos at this spectacular viewing spot.

年間8回程度開催される企画展では、有名アーティストから新進気鋭の若手まで、テーマに合わせてセレクトされた質の高いグラフィックデザイン作品が展示されます。特に毎年春に開催される「東京TDC賞」の受賞作品展は見逃せません。タイポグラフィを軸としたグラフィックデザインの国際賞の受賞作が一堂に会する貴重な機会で、世界最先端のデザイントレンドを肌で感じることができます。展示は定期的に入れ替わるので、何度訪れても新しい発見があります。

The approximately 8 special exhibitions held annually display high-quality graphic design works selected according to themes, featuring everyone from famous artists to promising young talents. The "Tokyo TDC Award" winners' exhibition held every spring is particularly unmissable. ギャラリーを訪れて一番印象的だったのは、若手デザイナーや学生らしき人たちがたくさんいたことです。地下1階では撮影が許可されていたため、みなさん真剣な表情で作品を観察し、スマートフォンやカメラで撮影している姿が印象的でした。参考資料として作品を記録しているように見えました。デザイナーの卵たちにとって、プロの技術や発想を学べる貴重な学習の場となっているのだと思います。無料で質の高い作品に触れられるgggは、デザイナーにとってそれ以外の人にとっても魅力的な場所です。

What impressed me most when visiting the gallery was seeing so many young designers and student-like people there. Since photography was permitted on the basement level, it was striking to see everyone seriously observing works and photographing them with smartphones and cameras. They appeared to be recording works as reference materials. I believe this serves as a valuable learning space where aspiring designers can study professional techniques and ideas. ggg, where you can experience high-quality works for free, is an attractive place for both designers and others alike.

銀座という一等地にありながら、入場料は無料というのが魅力的です。お買い物の合間や仕事帰りに、ふらりと立ち寄ることができる気軽さがあります。高級ブランド店が立ち並ぶ銀座の街を歩いていて、こんな素敵なギャラリーがあったとは。知らなかった方も多いのではないでしょうか。アート、色彩、テキスト、レイアウトなど、日常生活でも目にするデザイン要素について、新しい視点を得られる場所。デザインに興味がある人はもちろん、そうでない人でも楽しめる、銀座の隠れた文化スポットとしておすすめです。

Despite being located in Ginza's prime real estate, the appeal is that admission is completely free. There's an accessibility that allows you to drop by casually between shopping or after work. Walking through Ginza's streets lined with luxury brand stores, many people probably didn't know such a wonderful gallery existed. It's a place where you can gain new perspectives on design elements like art, color, text, and layout that we encounter in daily life. I recommend it as Ginza's hidden cultural spot that can be enjoyed by those interested in design as well as those who aren't.
